Motorola Defy- Android phone now in India

The durable Motorola Defy Android phone is officially out in India, available at a price of Rs. 21,990 -- with a best buy price of Rs. 18,990. The Android phone from Motorola adds to the company's burgeoning offerings based on Google's mobile OS of late, like the Motorola Flipout, Charm, and most recently Motorola Milestone XT800 (Glam).

But even before Motorola could officially launch the Defy rugged phone, Flipkart started selling the Motorola Defy at Rs. 17,999 as early as last week. So how's the Motorola Defy better or worse than any other Android phone at its price point?

Motorola Defy

All the buzz surrounding the Motorola Defy Android phone is about its rugged build quality. In Motorola's own words, the Defy is dust proof and water resistant. The Motorola Defy also has a scratch resistant touchscreen display. So we guess it can take a few knocks without breaking apart.

Motorola Defy: Feature, Specs
The Defy doesn't come with the latest Android version, disappointingly, it has only Android 2.1 Eclair. The phone has a 3.7-inch WVGA screen and a 5MP camera with LED flash. The Motorola Defy supports expandable memory up to 32GB.

The phone is DLNA-compliant, meaning you can connect the Motorola Defy to stream, store and share content to compatible devices in your home -- HDTVs, game consoles and PCs. The Motorola Defy Android phone also features Swype gesture for smooth, fluid text input using one continuous finger motion. With the Defy, you can access 3G mobile hotspots as well.

For connectivity ports, the Motorola Defy has 0.35mm audio jack, USB 2.0 port and Bluetooth A2DP support. The phone supports popular audio (AAC, AAC+, MP3, WAV, etc.) and video (H.264) codecs. Its camera captures VGA quality video at 30 fps.

Motorola Defy: Pricing and Availability
Motorola Defy sells witha a 2GB microSD card. The phone retails for Rs. 21,990 but is currently available at a best buy price of Rs. 18,990 -- more than Flipkart's current selling price.source-pcworld.in

It has Dell Stage UI running over the Android OS. Dell Venue has an 8-megapixel autofocus ( also includes touch-to-focus option) camera that is able to record 720p HD video. The camera has face detection and geotagging features as well. The device is powered by 1GHz Scorpion processor and Adreno 200 GPU. Dell Venue Pro

The Dell Venue shares most of the Venue specs but it has a vertical slider QWERTY form factor and it runs on Windows Phone 7. The Venue Pro also has a fewer megapixel camera - a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. It can also record 720p HD video. The vertical slide-out QWERTY form factor made it thicker than the Venue and in terms of design, it resembles the Blackberry Torch. The screen is the same 4.1-inch as the Venue's and it is an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution and it also employs the tough Gorilla Display. Like the Venue, the Venue Pro also is powered by the same 1GHz Scorpion processor with Adreno 200 GPU and it has 512MB RAM with 16GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, there is no memory card slot like most Windows Phone 7 devices. The Venue Pro does not have Dell's own Stage UI but relies on the default Windows Phone 7 interface. The device has Wi-Fi b/g/n, 3G (HSDPA + HSUPA), GPS with A-GPS and microUSB support. The Dell Venue Pro is priced at Rs.34,990.

Airtel started 3G in Karnataka - pan-India coverage by March 11

With the 3G launch, the mobile war is picking up in India again, following closely on the heels of the mobile number portability launch. The private operators are all bringing out their 3G networks now and Airtel is kick starting things with the launch of its services in Karnataka, the operator's largest circle in the country.

The company plans to launch its 3G services in all 13 circles by March this year, across Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Mumbai, North-East circle, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, UP-West and West Bengal.

The service will come with personalised usage limits to allow people to pick and choose how to best use the 3G services. The company has launched plans which are time based, for light users and also flexible plans for heavy users. It will also allow customers to monitor the usage to prevent people from being surprised by the bill when it arrives.

Airtel CEO Sanjay Kapoor said, "It is the start of a new era as 3G services in India roll out on Airtel's network. Data traffic on the back of high speed internet and use of social networking has already exceeded voice. India is ushering in the domain – though later than most of the world – but no doubt we will catch up at a much faster speed. 3G is much more than a technology migration – it is a transformational shift. Airtel's focus would be to bring to its customers an enriched user experience on the back of a world class delivery network."source-exchange4media.com
